Travelling Exhibition Proving Popular!

Banners created as part of the Sligo through the Decades travelling exhibition were on display in the Hawkswell Theatre during the Easter break. The ten banners give a historical snapshot of events that made the headlines in Sligo over the last one hundred years since 1916. The exhibition will be on display in each of the seven schools which participated in the project over the coming months.

Fiona Fox, Librarian and project co-ordinator for the exhibition was recently interviewed by Claire Ronan about the project for Irish TV Sligo Matters. The exhibition has since been on display in the Knocknarea Arena for the musical event, Macalla. Keep an eye for it as you never know where it will pop-up next!

IT Sligo commemorates 1916

Several events were held in the Institute to mark Proclamation Day on March 15th. The reading of the Proclamation at the entrance to the college started off events which included music, song, and recitals. This was followed by a film installation and drama performances in the afternoon of popular stage melodramas from the time of the Rising by students from Performing Arts, as well as excerpts from the play The Plough and the Stars.
The evening finished with talks by two guest lecturers on the topics on gender representation over the last one hundred years on and off stage and the influence of The Plough and the Stars.
