Sligo Gaelic Heritage & Folklore Event


The library is hosting 3 mini-lectures on Sligo's Gaelic Heritage & Folklore to take place on Thursday 14th Aug @ 17.00  in Lecture Theatre A0006 (across from Social Zone entrance, lower ground floor).

Topics & Speakers:

Late medieval writings featuring the Book of Ballymote
Michael Gleeson, student of BSc (Hons) Archaeology, IT Sligo

Irish folklore and the seasons
Bríd Ní Dhonnchú, current staff member, IT Sligo

History of the Barytes mining in Benbulben
Gerry Foley, retired lecturer from School of Engineering, IT Sligo

Book exhibition on Sligo's Gaelic Heritage

To coincide with the Fleadh  this week the library is running an exhibition on Sligo's Gaelic Hertiage with items from the Special Collections such as the 19th century facsimile editions of Irish medieval manuscripts: The Book of Leinster, The Book of the Dun Cow and The Book of Ballymote.
Also works by two Gaelic scholars Tadhg Connellan (1770-1854) and Owen Connellan (1797-1871) both from Sligo.

The exhibition is open 9am-5pm, 11th-18th August in the Library Social Learning Zone (lower ground floor).
