Supernatural influences


A collection of items from the Yeats Library's Special Collections is currently on exhitbition in the library. The theme of this exhibition is the supernatural and it's influence on writers, poets, and artists in their creative works- from the fairies of folklore to the vampires of gothic horror.

Items include:
The Celtic twilight: men and women, dhouls and faeries by W. B Yeats, a 1st edition based on local folklore from Sligo

The Fairies, poem by William Allingham (who was from Ballyshannon)
Gothic horror novels by Bram Stoker (whose mother had lived in Sligo)including Dracula, Dracula's Guest and The Snake’ Pass
Images of gothic art including The Last Detail from the artist Hieronymus Bosch (1450-1510), taken from the Anne Yeats Art Collection.
These items can be viewed in the Special Collections Exhbition area just inside the entrance doors to the Social Zone.

Royal Irish Academy Exhibition

The Yeats Library, Institute of Technology, Sligo is delighted to
host The Royal Irish Academy Library’s successful exhibition, ‘Mapping Urban Ireland’.

The exhibition has been planned in association with the Irish Historic Towns Atlas project at the Royal Irish Academy and is of particular interest, as the ‘Irish historic towns atlas’ was published in 2012 for Sligo.

You are invited to view the exhibition which will be held on the Info Zone of the Yeats Library from Wednesday 14th November until the end of the month.  The historic maps of Sligo will also be on display during this period.

Library Week 2012

Library Week 2012 runs from November 12th-18th and this year the theme is the role of libraries, librarians and information professionals in the promotion and support of literacy and learning.

EndNote Web

EndNote Web Available at IT Sligo

EndNote Web is a referencing product which allows you to effectively  store and manage your references while undertaking research or assigment work. Once you create an EndNote Web account you can:
  1. add and store your references
  2. insert them into a Word document using the 'Cite While You Write' option
  3. create a bibliography in your chosen referenceing style at the end of the document.
Endnote Web is provided by Thomson Reuters and available via the library database Web of Science. For more details on how to get started with EndNote Web click here

New Database! North South Child Protection Hub

The North South Child Protection Hub is the first dedicated child protection resource of it's kind. The aim of this hub is to provide and share information with daily updates, among professional bodies north and south of the border.

Click on the blue tab for Databases on the library home page and scroll down the list (under Academic Search Premier) for North South Child Protection Hub. You will need your student/staff ID and library password to access this database.

New Database! Montie Health and Safety

New to Yeats Library - Montie provides access to a comprehensive library of Workplace Health & Safety and Skills Training dvds and videos.

Click on the blue tab for Databases on the library home page and scroll down the list (under Academic Search Premier) for Montie. You will need your student/staff ID and library password to access this database.

The Late Maeve Binchy


Maeve Binchy, one of Ireland's most popular
writers and journalists has passed away at the age of 72.
She was an international bestselling author, publishing 16 novels and several short story collections and sold over 40 million books throughout her career.
Some of her novels were made into films such as 'The Lilac Bus' and 'Circle of Friends'.

Yeats Day


A series of events have been organised to celebrate the birthday of W.B.Yeats today, Wednesday 13th June.

The Yeats Library have loaned some items from the Library's Special Collections of Yeats Works to exhibit alongside a collection from the National Library, this will take place in the Pollexfen Building, Wine Street from 11.30am today.

From Tuesday the 8th of May and for the duration of the exam period, all three zones in the Yeats Library will be for quiet study only. If you make noise you will be asked to leave. Charity Book Donations


Time to do a Spring clean of your book collection?

For the month of March, the Yeats Library is hosting a drop box for book donations in association with Oxfam Ireland's Clear Ur Books campaign. Oxfam will accept donations of all types of books both fiction and non-fiction, as long as they are in good condition.
The drop box is located beside the library information desk.
So clear some space and donate for charity!

World Book Day 2012




Today, March 1st,  is World Book Day and to celebrate this international event the  library has a wonderful display of children’s books, all created by  4th year students from Early Childhood Care in Education. These are on display at the library information desk.
Also on display are a new range of books “Quick Reads” - they are brilliant, bite sized books by big name authors and celebrities. 

We would like to welcome you  to call to the library between 1 and 2pm today for a tea/coffee and chocolate bar all kindly sponsored by Wheat’s, the Book Nest, Students Union shop and Corporate Catering when you can browse the quick reads and view the displays.

IEEE Digital Library

IEEE Advancing Technology for Humanity
The IEEE Electronic Library (IEL) provides access to over 3,132146 documents from the IEEE and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) including journals, conference proceedings, published standards and a standards dictionary from 1988. Subjects covered are electrical engineering, computer science and communications.

VDE VERLANG Conference Proceedings are also available with abstracts and some full text proceedings from 2005.

Access to the IEL is now available from the Library homepage, just select IEEE from the Database drop-down list.

Two new databases from EBSCOHost!

Academic Search Premier has been upgraded to Academic Search Complete and Business Source Premier to Business Source Complete. Both databases have new interfaces and increased access to even more online journal titles.
